Set up FFXIV character and Free Company roles in Discord

Set up verified character and Free Company roles with Aymeric, restrict Discord channels to those members, and fix missing roles.

How do automatic character roles work?

When a member saves their character in your server with /xiv iam, Aymeric can give them roles based on that character and set their nickname to the character’s name. You choose the roles in the dashboard, and Discord’s channel permissions decide what each role can see.

With Require character verification on, the save only finishes once the member has proved the character is theirs, so every role Aymeric gives belongs to a verified player.

The roles Aymeric can give

Character role: one role for everyone who saves a character. With verification required, this is your verified-member role.

Free Company role: a role for members of one Free Company, matched by its Lodestone ID, so it still works after the Free Company is renamed.

Achievement roles: up to 10 roles for in-game achievements, such as one for everyone who has cleared an Ultimate. Members’ achievements must be public on the Lodestone.

Data centre, world and Free Company name roles: roles named after the character’s data centre, world or Free Company, created when needed. Only the server owner can turn these on.

Nickname: the member’s nickname becomes their character’s name.

Set up character and Free Company roles

  1. Open the dashboard, choose your server and open Final Fantasy XIV.
  2. Under Character features, turn on Require character verification if roles should only go to proven owners, and save.
  3. Under Automatic roles, choose your roles: turn on Assign a role after saving a character and pick the role; add your Free Company’s Lodestone ID and its role; add any achievement roles. Save.
  4. In Discord’s server settings, give Aymeric Manage Roles (and Manage Nicknames for nicknames), and move its role above every role it gives.
  5. Test it: save a character in your server and check the roles you get.

Make channels members-only

Aymeric gives the roles; Discord’s channel permissions decide who sees what. To make a channel or category visible only to verified members:

  1. Edit the channel or category and open Permissions.
  2. For @everyone, turn off View Channel.
  3. Add your Character role, or your Free Company role for a Free Company-only channel, and turn on View Channel.
  4. Ask someone without the role to check they can’t see it.

Keeping roles up to date

Aymeric adds roles when a member saves a character, and never removes them. If someone leaves your Free Company, moves world or saves a different character, their old roles stay until you remove them, so check your Free Company role from time to time.

Members who saved a character before you set up roles get them by running /xiv iam again in your server.

Help members get verified

Most members who get stuck are stuck on the Lodestone code. Point them to the character linking and verification guide below, which walks through it and the usual problems: a profile that isn’t public, a code on the wrong character, or not waiting long enough for the Lodestone to update.

To see who has saved a character, turn on Character registration alerts in the Final Fantasy XIV settings and choose a channel for them.

Common questions

Does requiring verification hide channels or remove members?
No. It only changes what happens when someone saves a character in your server. Hiding channels is done with Discord’s channel permissions, as above.
A member verified but didn’t get the role.
Roles are given when the member saves the character in your server, so ask them to run /xiv iam again. If the role still doesn’t appear, check that Aymeric has Manage Roles, that its role is above the role it gives, and that the role has no moderation permissions: Aymeric won’t hand those out. Achievement roles also need the member’s achievements to be public on the Lodestone.
Where do I find my Free Company’s Lodestone ID?
Open your Free Company’s page on the Lodestone. The ID is the long number at the end of its address, such as 9229001536389012345 in na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/freecompany/9229001536389012345/.
